Minds and Mentors Paraprofessional
​Training Program (MiMP- TP)

What Do We Offer?

MiMP- TP is  HRSA funded program that is designed to increase the number of behavioral health paraprofessionals in Alabama.  Through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH), UA offers trainees Level I and Level II training to enhance the knowledge and skill of substance use paraprofessionals who support both a person in recovery and their family. 

​The team was recently awarded a second HRSA grant, MiMP-TP II, to expand efforts for MiMP-TP and increase the number of participants.

Eligibility

Level I Applicants must have:
  • Two years sobriety*
  • Valid Drivers License
  •  GED or High School Diploma
  • Level II Applicants must complete Level I training or currently be Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)

Level I Training- 12 Months

  • Earn 6 college credit hours by taking two courses through UA Distance Learning
  • Complete 120 hours of field training at community partner sites (over 6 months)
  • Monthly stipend of $208.33 
  • All tuition and fees paid

Level II Training-
​12 Months

  • Complete 2,000 hours in a paid apprenticeship at local mental health and substance use provider facilities
  • Monthly stipend of $625.00
  • Full-time, one-year commitment 
New trainees should apply in June to begin Level I training in August or apply in October to begin Level I training in January.

AOA Registered Apprenticeship Program

Our Registered Apprenticeship Program is certified through the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship to enable individuals currently certified as CRSS (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) to continue with their recovery journey while receiving instruction from the University of Alabama and on the job training with collaborating employers.  This is a full-time, one- year commitment.  Apprentices will work full-time at one of our partner employer sites to complete 2,000 hours in 12 months.

RESTORE Alabama

Infrastructure and programmatic activities of RESTORE Alabama are supported by $500, 000 grant funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission and in collaboration with The Will Bright Foundation (Grant Number: IS-20237). 

Minds and Mentors Program

​All research and associated activities of the Minds and Mentors Program are supported by $2.7 Million grant funding from the National Institutes of Health – National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (Grant Numbers: 1R61AT010802-01 and 4R33AT010802-02).

MiMP-TP

All  programmatic and associated activities of the MiMP-TP are supported by $2.1 Million grant funding from the  Health Resources and Services Administration (Grant Number: 1 T26HP39458-01-00).

MiMP-TP II

All  programmatic and associated activities of the MiMP-TP II are supported by $2.1 Million grant funding from the  Health Resources and Services Administration (Grant Number: M01HP42451-01-00).
